For the Doctor's office to be closed to have a major problem?

I have because I have a few examples.

1. My daughter when she was 3. At this time in my life I was a single mom. I worked at a clothing label making factory on the 3 pm to 11pm shift. She usually stayed up with me while I wound down after work. As the babysitter put her down at 8:30 pm and she always woke up when I picked her up after work. This particular night she wanted to take a bath when we got home. She got out of the bath to come tell me something. I told her to go finish her bath but don't run. Well she goes back to the bathroom and I hear this terrible THUD and the crying. I go to her and she is bleeding from her chin. It looks pretty bad. So I have a neighbor drive us to the hospital. The ER doc. gives me the 3rd degree. Guess he couldn't figure out why a 3 year old is taking a bath at 11:30 at night. Her little gash required 3 stiches.

2. My son at 18 months. He is just learning to walk with the aid of furninture. He has a foam chair and he tried to use it to pull himself up. It is not sturdy enough. He falls backwards into the corner of the wall splitting his scalp open. Of course it happens to be a Saturday evening. So my husband walks him over to the hospital in his stroller. We only lived 2 blocks away from it. It was only a half inch long and 1/4 inch deep gash which required 3 staples. My husband also recieved the 3rd degree as to how our son recieved his injury.

3. The cat. He climbed through the shed and landed on a piece of metal. It left a 2 inch gash that went down to his muscle in his chest area. He did this on a Wednesday afternoon. He acted like everything was hunky dorie. My daughter picked him up that night around 8;30pm to give him some attention. He let our a god awful yowl. That is how we found the gash. My husband said since it was not bleeding and the cat had licked and cleaned pretty well already we could wait until morning to go to the vet. The cat's gash required 8 stitches.

These are my examples. Do you have any examples? Is it a kid and pet conspiracy to freak us adults out? What are your thoughts?

With kids it doesn't take much!! My kids usually wait until the end of school vacation or a long four day weekend and the next day school/works begins and they get really sick or do something to make themselves get hurt....to be fair, being ill isn't their fault, so it goes along with parenting!lol!

As for you and your kids, ouch. I can understand the 3rd degree from the doctors, that's their job, and normal for them to ask. Being their to monitor is one thing I do as much as possible though so as to not let things like that happen to mine. I always freak out 'seeing' the accidents before they happen and being there prevented it for me and mine.

I too understand that the doctor was doing his job, as they are usually the first to observe child abuse, but this particular doctor's manner in which he asked the questions seemed condescending and made me feel I was a bad parent. This was the one and only time either of my children were taken to the ER. The article was ment to incourage a dialogue about how kids find little ways of having accidents when the doctor's office is closed.
